I wish Buddha free from Danger in Burma #01, 2015
Painted acrylic back & front, faux oxidized iron patina, quality resin casting
17 x 12 1/2 x 7 in
43.2 x 31.8 x 17.8 cm
This shattered Buddha references the prolific destruction of Buddhist monasteries and Christian churches by Myanmar’s military junta. Over 100 religious sites have been destroyed since the coup of early 2021, despite the regime’s claims that it is a defender of Buddhism. Anti-junta Buddhist monk U Waryama says, “They build pagodas and monasteries to show they are the guardians of Buddhism but will not hesitate to kill monks if they pose a threat to their power.”
