Jami Porter Lara at form & concept

From her studio in Albuquerque's North Valley, acclaimed ceramicist and conceptual artist Jami Porter Lara continually reinvents the form of the plastic bottle through some of the oldest processes known to humanity.

Inspired by a university research trip through Southwestern borderlands, the artist was struck by the spatial relationship between ancient potsherds and discarded water bottles. Both objects served vital purposes for those who owned them, though the cultural baggage that both objects carry varies widely. The encounter inspired Porter Lara to explore themes of survival, eco-pessimism and innovation through ceramics.
