On the left side of this work, Ziek chronicles natural dye tests. “It’s like choosing a palette as a painter,” she explains. At center, she depicts trees and birds, “but I also see them as synapses in the brain,” she adds. At right, Ziek diagrams a 26-point weave structure over a field of leaves and flowers, using the dyes that she tested in the first passage of the piece.
