Poetry Reading: 3 Poets Walk Into a Gallery: A Film screening and Poetry Reading with Jami Macarty, Sarah Rosenthal, and Valerie Witte

Join us on 1 February starting at 2:30 PM as poets Jami Macarty, Sarah Rosenthal, and Valerie Witte read from new and forthcoming work. This event includes projections of visual poetry and a short dance/poetry/music film, as well as a Q&A and book signing. Stop by the gallery early to mingle with the poets and hang out.

 

About the Poets:

Valerie Witte is the author of A Rupture in the Interiors (Airlie Press, 2023); One Thing Follows Another: Experiments in Dance, Art, and Life through the Lens of Simone Forti and Yvonne Rainer (punctum books, forthcoming) and The Grass Is Greener When the Sun Is Yellow (Operating System, 2019), both in collaboration with Sarah Rosenthal; and a game of correspondence (Black Radish Books, 2015). Her latest chapbook is Listening Through the Body (above/ground press, 2021), and her work has appeared in publications such as VOLTDiagramInterim, and The Hunger. She has attended residencies through The Hambidge Center, Ragdale Foundation, and La Porte Peinte Center for the Arts in Noyers, France. Previously she served as a member of Kelsey Street Press and Airlie Press.

 

Sarah Rosenthal is the author of the full-length collections Estelle Meaning Star (Chax, 2024), Lizard (Chax, 2016), Manhatte(Spuyten Duyvil, 2009), and two books in collaboration with Valerie Witte: One Thing Follows Another: Experiments in Dance, Art, and Life Through the Lens of Simone Forti and Yvonne Rainer (punctum, forthcoming) and The Grass Is Greener When the Sun Is Yellow (The Operating System, 2019), as well as several chapbooks. She edited A Community Writing Itself: Conversations with Vanguard Writers of the Bay Area (Dalkey Archive, 2010). Her collaborative film We Agree on the Sun has received numerous accolades including Best Experimental Short, Berlin Independent Film Festival. A new collaborative film, Lizard Song, based on Sarah's book Lizard, was screened at the San Francisco Dance Film Festival and the Art of Brooklyn Film Festival.

 

Jami Macarty teaches creative writing at Simon Fraser University, writes essays, reviews, and poetry, and is the author of The Long Now Conditions Permit (forthcoming University of Nevada Press), winner of the 2023 Test Site Poetry Series, The Minuses (Center for Literary Publishing, 2020), winner of the 2020 New Mexico/Arizona Book Award - Poetry Arizona, and four chapbooks, including The Whole Catastrophe (Vallum Chapbook Series, 2024) and Mind of Spring (Vallum Chapbook Series, 2017), winner of the 2017 Vallum Chapbook Award.
