“This is the show where we pull out all the stops,” says Gallery Director Jordan Eddy of Arrivals 2023. “It’s an invitation to meet rising voices in contemporary art, craft and design, and a chance to dive into a wild storm of new ideas.”
This dynamic exhibition serves as a prelude to form & concept’s 2023 exhibition schedule, showcasing works that compress vast emotional and physical geographies and offer myriad approaches to our complicated contemporary moment.
As we struggle amid overlapping global calamities, art stands as a vehicle that can carry criticism and revelry in the same saddle. This tension is ever-present and serves as an effective point of origin for the artists in Arrivals 2023, who work with a vast array of mediums including ceramics, textiles and prints.
A series of burnished ceramic vessels from Jami Porter Lara grounds the exhibition in notions of responsive structures and ecology, marking the artist’s form & concept debut. In her series, Porter Lara re-interprets the darkly ubiquitous form of the plastic bottle in clay, presenting surreal objects with immaculate surfaces that suspend the viewer between the stark reality of human-made environmental catastrophe and the exquisite joy of elegant forms and lush textures.
